Brand Identity
Open Door Preschool
Open Door Baptist Church has been a pillar of hope to their community in Lynnwood, Washington for over 50 years. In addition to sharing the Gospel in their weekly worship services and Bible Institute classes, Open Door Baptist actively seeks to give back to their community through a wide variety of outreach opportunities in partnership with local city government, senior care facilities, and first responders. Open Door recently expanded their ministry to better serve their community by opening a preschool.
I was commissioned by the school's leadership team to create the new preschool's brand identity. They knew they wanted an identity that represented the precious little ones they would have the opportunity to teach and care for, while also serving as a school mascot. They also had a desire to visually differentiate themselves from the typical primary colors and finger paint style logos of other preschools, choosing a more private academy type visual treatment instead.
I decided that the friendly little chickadee (a Washington native species) would make the perfect mascot, visually representing the school's young students who are just learning to spread their wings and fly. I chose to replace the chickadee's natural black, white, and brown coloring with shades of blue to represent youth, convey a sense of stability and trust, and reinforce the more academic mindset that leadership desired.
In order to create visual relationship and cohesion with Open Door's main brand identity, I decided on a circular lockup for the logo, with the chickadee's feathers overlapping the boundary to create a sense of motion and further reinforce the concept of spreading wings.
Open Door's leadership team loved the new brand identity, incorporating it across their campus on signage, promotional material, preschool website, and student uniforms.
Marketing Campaigns
USC Kaufman
2025 marks the tenth anniversary of the USC Glorya Kaufman School of Dance. Since its inception, USC Kaufman has had a profound impact on the lives of thousands of students by using dance as a platform to cultivate a passion for artistry, expression, and community. It is also a time to celebrate the legacy of Glorya Kaufman herself, a lifelong dance enthusiast, philanthropist, and the school’s founder and namesake.
USC Kaufman wanted to celebrate their tenth anniversary in a big way with a year-long, campus-wide campaign and benefit gala. In my role as Senior Designer at Unincorporated, I worked with USC Kaufman’s leadership team to create a collection of colorful, expressive materials that worked together to tell the story of their first decade across web, print, and experiential touchpoints:
-
Campus Posters and Banners served as a visual tool to celebrate alumni while also cross-promoting USC Kaufman within the broader USC campus system.
-
Gala Save-the-Dates and Formal Invitations featured gold foil and fine texture to grab the attention of the patrons who received them and encourage them to attend the big event.
-
10th Anniversary Microsite served as the central information hub for all the anniversary spotlight stories, updates, and gala information and registration.
-
Magazine Ads and Email Communications allowed USC Kaufman to extend the message of their anniversary celebration to those outside the walls of the USC ecosystem.
-
Impact Report Publication served as a comprehensive guide chronicling the major milestones of USC Kaufman’s first ten years and celebrating the people who made it possible.
The tenth anniversary campaign collateral I created achieved the goal of commemorating USC Kaufman’s first decade milestone, while also enabling the school to reach the eyes and hearts of their community of generous supporters who help make it possible for the next decade of students to pursue their dreams. The campaign also served as a way for USC Kaufman to gain exposure with a broader audience of potential future students.
Video Production
Thailand Ministires
Dr. Wayne Sehmish is a missionary serving in Thailand. He and his family have devoted themselves to reaching the people of Nakhon Sawan and the surrounding area with the Gospel message. Over the years he has served there, he has seen many come to know Christ, while also establishing a local church and Bible Institute to help others grow in their faith and, in turn, reach others.
I (along with my friend and videographer Nick Wallace) had the privilege to visit him on the mission field and produce a docu-style explainer video to fully capture and help tell the story of the very unique ministry and specific vision they have.
We spent three days in Bangkok capturing b-roll to visually depict and reinforce the talking points Dr. Sehmish would go on to discuss in his interview footage. We were able to capture footage that gave viewers a better sense of the rich and vibrant Thai culture, the immense spiritual and physical needs of the people, and the miraculous results and transformed lives that have come about as a result of God working through Dr. Sehmish's faithful labor and leadership.
We then sat down with Dr. Sehmish in the church sanctuary and shot a simple two camera, soft-lit interview to put him at ease, allowing him to share his story without being nervous or distracted by the production. Finally, we captured drone footage of the church property to give viewers a sense of scale and visual context as Dr. Sehmish shares the needs and future vision for their ministry.
After returning from Thailand I got to work editing in Final Cut, weaving together the interview footage, b-roll, and background music to create several versions of the piece to best serve Dr. Sehmish's needs over the coming years as he raises awareness and support in his speaking engagements around the world.
